Signed and inscribed on front free end paper, “To Ben Strauss with sincere good wishes, Ernest Hemingway.” A Farewell to Arms was Hemingway's semi-autobiographical first-person account of American Frederic Henry, serving as a Lieutenant in the ambulance corps of the Italian Army. Although set in war, the book is a essentially a love story between the young lieutenant bearing striking similarities to Hemingway, and a young British nurse. Both a commercial and critical success, which later became an acclaimed film. No dustjacket. Owner's bookplate on inside front cover. Minor scuffing and smudging to cloth and light fading to spine. Interior pages are in very good condition with a nice bold inscription and signature.
